FROM THE METAMORA HERALD
MAY 13, 2004
Recently, a student-produced motion picture was filmed from a story developed in association with Metamora Township High School to educate parents, students and teachers on the issues surrounding the causes, the effects and consequences of such violence. The following is a synopsis of the film:
The Only Way was produced by David Zimmerman III and Levi Steven Obery to educate students, teachers and parents on issues surrounding violence in schools today. The Only Way presents the causes, the effects, and consequences of bringing a gun to school and pulling the trigger. The film is a fictional story in which Devon Browning is viewed as an outcast and is the victim of physical and emotional abuse from his classmates. After a sudden tragedy in his family to add to his problems, Devon eventually loses his way in life, looks for revenge and opens fire on his classmates. Discovering the extreme consequences of his actions, the true meaning of friendship, kindness and tolerance -he finds that murder was not the only way. His classmates learn that their actions might seem like nothing at the time, but can really hurt someone.
The film offers an unwavering look at violence and the social and emotional problems in schools while bringing the impact, realism and lessons learned from tragedies like Columbine, a little closer to home in the hope to preventing such tragedies from happening. Only through powerful, shocking and realistic imagery, along with an influential theme, is The Only Way able to accomplish this. The Only Way will prove to be a powerful educational experience surrounded with a positive message.
The film addresses a problem in our society that deserves a closer look. Violence in schools can happen anytime and anywhere. The only means of prevention is education through the presentation of the causes, effects and consequences.
The film will debut in the MTHS auditorium May 21, 22 and 28, at 8 p.m.
